SKY NEWS Australia host Peta Credlin delivered a scathing slap down of the Brexit negotiations, insisting "it shouldn't have been this hard" for "one of the world's greatest countries" to secure a deal with the European Union.
The Australian political commentator appeared to echo the damning reviews Brexiteers have voiced about Theresa May and her Government when she branded the negotiations a "shamble show." Mrs May has been struggling to have MPs accept her proposed Brexit deal with the European Union because of perceived risks to see the UK locked inside the bloc after the proposed two-year transition period. Ms Credlin insisted the UK should have exploited the dependency of the EU on trade with Britain to offer Brussels a deal on a "take it or leave it basis".
The Sky News Australia columnist said: "It shouldn’t have been this hard.
"With Britain entirely in charge of everything, all it had to do was to decide the kind of future relationship that it’d want with the EU and offer it to them on a take it or leave it basis given that Europe has always needed Britain far more than Britain has needed Europe.
"One of the world’s great countries can’t decide whether it’s in or out of the European Union, whether it accepts or rejects a democratic vote to leave and whether it can or cannot work out a credible way forward.
"This whole shambles shows what happens when the people in charge don’t believe in what they are supposedly trying to do."
