The Gadget Gift Guide

Sam Kessler
There’s something about a gadget that’s innately fascinating. Some make life easier, some open up new and exciting worlds and, whether big or small, even working out how to use some them comes with its own sense of achievement. Although the word gadget can sometimes evoke thoughts of cheap pedometers and useless mobile phone extras, there are some pieces of tech out there that are not only impressive but luxurious too.
Aether Cone,
£349
Wireless speakers aren’t exactly anything new - phones and MP3 players that can connect to docks or car sound systems through Bluetooth have been around for years. Aether however have taken a different approach to portable audio.

The Cone is a combination of portable speaker, intuitive music player and adaptive software. It not only plays music with a unique level of clarity for a speaker so portable, but gradually learns exactly what you like to listen to. Able to draw on a database of 25 million songs from Rdio (Spotify by any other name), the Cone adapts to the songs you pick and skip to build a profile of your tastes.

How you operate the Cone is just as intuitive. Simply rotate the rim of the speaker, turning to skip or replay a track or rotating further to switch genre entirely. Pressing the central button cues the voice activation system which lets you tell the Cone exactly what to play. All of this is housed alongside a 3’’ woofer, dual tweeters and a 20 watt amp for a range and quality of sound unprecedented in a speaker of its size.

Vertu for Bentley, £10,700
Any Vertu handset would be worthy of Christmas, especially the new Signature Touch. Yet the new Bentley addition brings with it another level of exclusivity. Adorned with all the design cues of the marque’s inimitable and quintessentially British automobiles, the new Bentley handset is embellished with the knurling and engine turning found on Bentley dashboards, while the tan leather of the cars’ upholstery forms the case, complete with signature diamond stitching.

The collaboration doesn’t stop on the outside. The Vertu for Bentley gives owners unique access to content normally only open to Bentley owners, allowing them to discover a whole world of experiences, offers and exclusive events. Should you already be fortunate enough to own a Bentley Flying Spur however, the phone also lets you control everything from the radio to the air conditioning, perfect for when you’re being driven to your next engagement.

Sennheiser HD 700 Headphones, £499.99
Everyone loves music on the go, with smartphones able to stream and store hundreds of thousands of songs. Yet the earphones that normally accompany them don’t exactly do the music justice. Sometimes fuzzy and distorted, often missing the more subtle nuances, sound quality has an undeniable impact on how we perceive music. To get the full experience, try something along the lines of Sennheiser’s HD 700 Headphones.
A dual-material yoke, angled acoustic baffle, detachable symmetrical silver-plated oxygen-free four-wire copper cable – while even we’d be hard-pressed to explain exactly what these elements achieve, all you need is thirty seconds of listening time to appreciate Sennheiser’s results. A warmer, more balanced sound with a clarity and depth akin to a high-end audio system can be reproduced on the go, all in a pair of headphones that not only sound the part but look it.
, the phone also lets you control everything from the radio to the air conditioning, perfect for when you’re being driven to your next engagement.

Available online at Sennheiser.
Senturion Key Bracelet,
£60,000
There’s something innately satisfying about being able to saunter through your front door without reaching into your pocket or stepping into your car as the engine roars to life without a key. This is exactly what Senturion allows you to do. Keyless entry might not be particularly cutting-edge, but the Senturion Bracelet can be linked to a near-unlimited number of electronic locks rather than just one.

Even without the tech, the Senturion Bracelet is an accessory worth investing in. While its rugged, masculine shape can be bought in rare palladium, the most exceptional model is crafted from something altogether more otherworldly – meteorite. Created from one of the few machinable pieces of meteorite on the planet, the unique grain across the metal shows it to be older than the Earth. In essence the bracelet is a coming together of futuristic tech and a material more ancient than the world itself.
